從環島旅程看見紅磚廠的沒落
紅磚黑瓦是我們傳統建築中的象徵，也是我們記憶中的顏色。紅磚的比熱大，不易腐蝕磨損和變形，並有吸水的特性，但因紅磚造屋疊砌費時，不如直接水泥隔間來得快速，並且因施工品質會有很大的差異以及燒磚時所帶來的環境汙染受到法規限制等問題，使得紅磚廠趨於沒落。
在環島途中經過彰化花壇轉型的紅磚廠，看見其經營的困難，也窺見紅磚從秦漢傳承下來的技藝。紅磚充滿文化內涵與其特異的表現手法，如「人字型」鋪法，即有「歡迎光臨」的象徵意涵，而「丁字型」鋪法，則寓含著「謝絕參觀」，並在與水泥的接合上，亦有許多變化。磚雕更是紅磚一個重要的表現方式。希望藉由設計做新的詮釋，喚回人們對傳統紅磚的記憶，讓這份信仰與感動能繼續傳承下去。
仿磚紅
發泡特性研究與顏色調配實驗 ˙
PU軟發泡為A劑(白色)加B劑(黃色)3：1開始膨脹塑形，作用時間大約一分鐘即停止發泡，十分鐘內反應完全，可控時間短暫為其困難之處。由於需求量少，故以「白玉卡紙」自製發泡外模具。若工廠生產，則會使用金屬模具（需噴砂以達霧面質感），可不斷重複使用。模具製作完成後，需仔細塗抹專用劑或特殊汽車蠟作為隔離劑，在A劑佐以氧化鐵(磚土氧化發色成份)粉以黃３：紅２的比例調配呈現紅磚色後，加入B劑快速攪拌均勻，倒入模具發泡，並以鑽孔或上蓋緊密度適量讓發泡溢出來控制發泡完成後的軟硬度。
Mix yellow iron oxide powder and red in a ratio of 3:2. ˙The more smooth the surface of the mold (eg: acrylic) is, not only the color shows easier but also glossier; vice versa the more frosting the surface is, the paler the color shows.
仿磚紅．紅磚信仰
紅磚是台灣人生活中不可抹去的一段記憶，其渾然天成的喜氣顏色成就著一種信仰，市面上隨處可見仿磚紅的器物，正是因為紅磚在人們心中的存有，是如此鮮明且根深蒂固。
而在台灣這片泛神信仰土地，生活中處處可見拜神祭祖、祈福保平安的痕跡。這些信仰表現在建築上，以諧音或圖騰化為各種巧具意義的窗漏與門，造就台灣傳統閩式建築文化。其中，紅磚正是當中與人文最為密切相關，無法用其他物品取代的建築素材。 紅磚沒落的同時，文化與信仰的消逝也正在發生。
紅磚信仰
由高雄三和瓦窯提供場地和材料自行製作而成，重新由土坯開始燒製較輕薄的卡榫磚塊及物件。為配合學校時程，卡榫磚採用較快速方便的製作方式。取兩塊厚薄與卡榫上下層、一塊與卡榫中層相同的土坯，切割成適當形狀後，彼此刮花抹上泥漿拍打黏合後，再進行修補。有彎曲的磚塊，則製作曲度相同的模具，力道平均地拍打三層土坯，並注意變形。若有機會大量生產，磚廠則建議使用注漿的方式，以木模翻製會吸水的石膏外模。
器物（鏡子、花瓶、小桌、水杯磚）圖騰由高雄三和瓦窯採傳統磚雕技法（鏡背）與他們獨有的點壓技法（花瓶）刻上圖騰。
The latches take architectural meaning into red brick furniture, and use four simple specification to combine into a variety of appearance. It also strengthens the structure in between bricks hence the red brick culture could be applied in our lives in a slimmer appearance.
The red brick is part of inerasable memory of Taiwanese life since its natural festive color stands more than just tradition but a faith. Just like various counterfeit of red-brick products, it talk that red brick owns such a vivid and deep-rooted impression among Taiwanese. Taiwan is a land of beliefs, where customs such as worshipping for ancestors and praying for blessings can be seen everywhere in life. These beliefs reflected on architectures with doors and windows that have variety of implication, which afterwards are considered as Taiwan’s traditional Fujianese architectural. As red brick has played the most important in traditional Fujianese architectural, red brick has being taking as an irreplaceable building material.Meanwhile, the decline of red brick also represents that the disappearance of culture and faith is taking place.
